Windows vista green screen startup

Joined Dec 21, Messages 5. Hi, My comp was fine this morning, but when I came home from work, the desktop was green and slightly snowy after it emerged from sleep, and now so is the splash screens, boot menus, and desktops in both Vista and Fedora I've performed start up repair, memory tests, and reverting to a restore point without any results. And of course, my warranty ran out just a few weeks ago.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Edit to add that performance seems fine, otherwise. Joined Jan 15, Messages 3, Hi and welcome to TSGF first try a video driver update from nvidia. Hi, and thanks for helping me out. I think it was already updated, but I dl-ed again, just to be sure.

No change, still green and snowy. Hi have you checked your cable for streching and the pins for damage, and reseat your graphics card also make sure it is properly secured. Well, it's a laptop that I usually have on top of a wooden dinner tray, and the leg was on the power cord for a a day or so, but it doesn't look damaged or anything.

This is my first comp, so I've never done anything like a check the graphics card , but I'll google up a guide , give it a try and check back, though. This ought to be interesting Edit to add the graphics card might make sense, I have had some trouble with occasional overheating, come to think. Joined Feb 13, Messages Is your screen black between restart and Windows initiation? I typed it again and it is still the same.

At this time, you can plug out the DVD, restart your computer and everything should be working normally. The black screen often causes the failure of booting the system. You have to fix it before accessing the data on the computer. However, it may fail to fix the issue with the above method. Under these circumstances, you will need a hard drive data recovery software to retrieve your lost data back. Follow the below steps to recover your data from the computer with a black screen.

Start Recoverit on your computer and select your preferred data recovery option. You can choose the "Recover from Crash Computer" mode when experiencing challenges with your Windows 10 not booting up. Then proceed to click the "Start" button as soon as the next pop up window emerges. A Window notification asking you to format your USB drive then pops up, ensure you backed up all your vital information before proceeding to click the "Format" button.

This will then start creating a bootable drive so try not to disrupt the process by ejecting the USB flash drive from your computer. Launched Dell Diagonostic that tests everything from processor, to fan, to system board, to USB, and to hard drive, but hasn't found any error.

Then pressed F8 to Repair but didn't work; tried to launch in safe mode but all bunch of lines poped but froze again at crcdisk. Start up in last good configuration doesn't do the job either freezes at the windows boot bar. If your installation allows you to boot to the Recovery Environment, you should run the following from the command line:. You likely have a damaged installation, the above may fix it or you may be forced to reinstall using the Dell recovery software.

If the latter, I would recommend first pulling the hard drive and slaving it in a working machine to recover data from first as some recovery methods do a simple wipe and reload resulting in the loss of all data currently on the drive. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback.

I have been using the desktop for more than a year and half and this is the first time such issue surfaced. By pulling the hard drive, do you mean to open the machine, physically take it out, and attach it to another computer?

That sounds like really involved. I don't think I have enough technical knowledge to complete such a risky procedure. I would suggest that you run startup repair on the computer using the Vista DVD and check if it works. If you have a Windows Vista installation disc, you need to restart boot your computer using the installation disc.

If you do not restart your computer from the disc, the option to repair your computer will not appear. Insert the installation disc. Restart your computer. Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button, and then click Restart. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

Note If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.
